Lovely chandelier (not in my budget) is from www.topdomus.com
You know how there are days you've got a serious craving for something you know you shouldn't have? Milkshakes, cherry pie, chocolate, grande frozen frothy coffee, prime rib, etc. I used to spend hours fantasizing about food, and trying to fill the void for the naughty by nibbling at other things... If I was craving a milkshake, I'd make a small glass of chocolate milk and hope it hit the spot. Did it? Rarely. Usually I continued to obsess about the thing I really wanted while consuming some number of calories that weren't satisfying in the least. Just get the thing you really want. That's my new motto. You'll be happier in the end. No more filling the void with second-rate junk that still leaves you wanting more. Indulge and truly enjoy the moment when craving meets satisfaction. You only live once.
This has also become my decorating approach. I still haven't found just the thing for the dining room lighting. I have a grand fantasy about some lovely statement piece, some "WOW" number that blows my mind every time I see it. Is that a lot to expect? Probably. I have been looking for 6 months and haven't had any luck yet. At least not luck in my price range. That lovely Murano glass number (above) for $12K would WOW me and also send me into waves of panic and (buyers) remorse... I'm holding out for something lovely, and am determined that I won't just fill my chandelier void with ho-hum empty calories. I think a little WOW is worth waiting for. The milkshake? Heck no. Heading out for one of those as soon as the kids wake up.
